Karpathos is the southernmost island of the Dodecanese. It is positioned between Crete and Rhodes and is the second largest island of this group with an area of 301 square kilometers, a coastline of 160 kilometers and a population of approximately 7000 people.
Karpathos consists of 10 villages which preserve intensively the traditional style of the island. The South part of Karpathos island there is Pigadia(Karpathos), the capital and main port. The capital is surrounded by the villages ofMenetes, Arkassa, Pyles, Othos, Volada and Aperi. In the North of the island there is Messochori, Spoa and Olymposthe last village in the North of the island, of great folkloric and architectural interest. The architecture, the rich internal decoration of the houses and the famous feasts compose a unique setting on a worldwide basis.
Today Karpathos has an enviable tourist facility. It provides hotels and furnished rooms. It also has a recently reconstructed international airport which not only accommodates flights from all European Union, but also from the rest of the world. The port Provides the island with easy transport to neighboring island of Crete and Rhodes, as well to Athens.
